Fletcher Jones welcomed people of all cultures, abilities and ages to work and many people have said that no-one ever got the sack! Often whole families worked at Fletchers. Fletcher Jones employees say they felt like they belonged to a family and they were described that way in the cover of the presentation booklet that staff received when they joined the company. At the back it said: "This booklet ....brings to you the sincere wishes of job satisfaction, self expression and success as a member of the F.J. Staff."
Fletcher Jones contributed to enriching the local cultural landscape in Warrnambool. The Italian tailors in particular made their mark. They formed what we think was likely the first soccer team in Warrnambool. They were called Gothic (named after a cafe where the Italian tailors often shared a meal that was upstairs on the corner of Lava and Liebig Sts (where Thomas the Jewellers is now).
