"My dad, George Doreian, worked at Fletcher Jones for 30 years. There were 3 houses in the FJ gardens and our family lived in one of those till I was about 5 years old. Darby, FJ's brother-in-law and head gardener, lived in one and Horace Verey in the other one.
This is a picture of me with Uncle Benny Hose in the gardens. You can see one of the staff houses behind us. I'm wearing a skirt that my mum made from remnants from the factory. Fletcher Jones was a warm man with a big smile and a stutter. He spoilt everyone with bonuses and presents. One of dad's jobs was to buy the Christmas presents and all the kids of the factory workers got presents. We'd get books and pens. I loved to read, so it was wonderful." Marg O'Connor
